With the IN:NYC campaign, American Express set out to attract a young audience of metro singles to a city-specific affinity credit card. It was an audience that had previously thought of American Express as stuffy, overly corporate and largely irrelevant. Enter Citi PremierPass: a credit card based on the premise that points are good and that you should be able to earn them rapidly and spend them freely. This was a matter of simplifying the complexity of reward programs and converting skeptics into believers.
