In 2021, when customer spending on Back-to-School items increased nearly 10%, our Back-to-School sales grew, but not at the same pace. Using learnings from past campaign performance and accounting for the shifting landscape, we approached 2022 with a “let’s-be-honest” strategy, taking a real, but humorous tone. In 2022, the amount customers spent on Back-to-School items decreased, while Amazon Back-to-School sales not only increased, but exceeded the growth rate of the prior year.
