SUMMARY
To build meaning for IKEA, we needed to shift perceptions from the poster-child of disposability to a leader in sustainability. But to demonstrate our commitment to the future we needed to face our past. So, we took one of IKEA’s most famous commercials and gave it new life. We also also launched a first of its kind sell-back program where people could bring back used furniture to IKEA. As a result, we protected IKEA’s leadership position and drove a lift in brand health metrics, leading to the highest-ever brand equity.
