– Entry levels increase 5% on 2024 numbers, continuing a pattern of strong year-over-year growth

The 2025 Effie Awards Canada competition, which recognizes and celebrates outstanding achievement in marketing effectiveness in Canada, has concluded its judging process with 63 entries making it through as Finalists, across 40 brands. Rethink is the agency with the highest number of Finalist entries (15), followed by Cossette (10), FCB (7), Courage Inc (6) and McCann Canada (6). Fifteen other agencies’ entries made the list as well.
The number of entries submitted to the 2025 competition rose by 5% on the previous year, continuing a pattern of sustained growth after a significant increase in 2024. McDonald’s Canada is the most listed advertiser, with eight nods for three different campaigns created by Cossette.
Three advertisers and their agencies Kellogg’s (Leo Toronto), Scotiabank (Rethink) and the charity OWN.CANCER (Daughter Creative) made it through to the Final Round in the Sustained Success category, an encouraging sign that advertisers in Canada are investing in long-term, smart brand-building that delivers consistent, impactful results over time.

Following a rigorous judging process the initial Finalists list includes all entries that made it to Final Round Judging and are up for a coveted Effie award. As the winners are announced, winning entries will move from the Finalist list to their recognized award level.
The Effie Awards Canada judging process involved 230+ esteemed judges drawn from the senior ranks of brands, agencies and academia, headed by Kate Torrance, VP, Head of Brand, Content and Communications, SickKids Foundation; and Adam Reeves, Chief Creative Officer, TBWA\Canada, who were named co-chairs of the Effie Canada steering committee for 2024/2025.
Finalist entries that have been awarded Winners will be revealed in the coming weeks (Bronze winners on October 6, and Silver winners on October 14).
These announcements form part of the build-up to the 2025 Effie Awards Canada Gala where the Gold, Grand Effie, Effie Canada Marketer of the Year, and Effie Canada Agency of the Year will all be announced live on stage. The Gala on Friday, October 24th is part of the multi-day Canadian Marketing Effectiveness Summit 2025, taking place at The Gathering in Banff, AB.
